Hi everyone!
Happy new year and here's to much success for us all in the coming months! My story - after a 15 year career with Hasbro I decided to launch my own small agency, Alloy Creative Group. Along with my partners, we continue to invent, design and consult in the industry. Collectively, we have dozens of titles published under the MB, Parker Bros., and Hasbro brands including everything from pre school play to family and electronic games to strategy games. Most recently, we explored the crowdfunding approach to financing and published a game called Funemployed. Our group collaborated with the designer Anthony Conta, and together we experienced a successful launch and learned an invaluable amount. If anyone ever has questions regarding the crowdfunding model or is looking for any insight, we'd be glad to share our experience.
Someone once told us that for every 100 concepts you submit, you'll be lucky if 1 of them gets a deal! Not trying to be negative. We all know it's a tough business and it takes a lot of work and dedication. Truth is, we don't do near that many because we have to balance our passion for inventing with the ability to keep the lights on. I'm sure many of you can relate. What we have discovered is that it's important to know when you've put the right amount of effort and equity into a concept to effectively communicate it's intended play and experience. Knowing how polished your concept should be for submission is a moving target for sure because there are so many variables at play.
I'd love to get some thoughts from the community - how finished - or not, should a concept be for submission?
Thanks for reading and I look forward to our continued dialog!
