I have a new type of outdoor throwing toy which I am trying to licence. The toy has reached stage 2 of the New Funtiers toy evaluation system. I have a fully working prototype and digital video footage of it being used. Unfortunately, due to the agent requiring detailed pro. story boards and sell sheets etc the costs involved made me try and licence it on my own.
The toy would be great fun for the park, garden, beach or at school due to its size, weight, simplicity and portable nature. The estimated RRP would be less than £5. The toy could be made as a basic model or with character options (3d designs available).
The play testers loved it!
If you would be interested in hearing more then please get in touch.
Cheers,
Inventoy.

Were you successful with this?
If you have a working prototype, how difficult is it to get into a toy manufacturers door to try and sell your prototyped idea to them?

Hi Ash,
Unfortunately this one is not licensed yet. We probably spent about £10k in all building prototypes (own time), testing and buying materials and machinery to make it. I have'nt approached too many companies with it yet but still hope it will one day sell. I decided to avoid all toy agents and go it alone. Aerobie were my last contact but they said tehy prefer to work on 'disc' type toys which fly a long way.
I would say it is best to avoid 'toy inventor' people in a company and try and get in to see the product manager/director or even the MD to lessen the chances of the design being stolen and copied.
Cheers

Excellent advice, I'm sure if you keep plugging, it will sell...!

The game sounds interesting. Can you tell me more about it? Maybe we can work together since we have similar products (e.g. lawn game). You can see mine at www.rollors.com I'm currently researching more cost effectives ways to create the game (i.e. plastic). The current model in wood sells quite fast at local arts/craft fairs and on the Internet.

Hi,
This is a more of an outdoor toy than a game. The internal mechanisms are quite complicated to perform a relatively simple task. I have approached many toy companies to date and they have all said that either it has already been done (it hasn't to my knowledge) or is too expensive to produce. I will certainly keep trying though as we have spent much time and money on prototypes and it is working quite well now but also could easily be improved with the right backing and effort put into it.
Cheers,
