I am new here. Do you absolutely have to have a patent on your idea before you submit the idea for a toy or game to a company? Thank you

No you do not need a patent. But, you need to know which companies will look at your idea via an NDA before submitting it to them. And if you look a number of toys are not patented. As far as games go a number of them are not patented but the rules fir the game are copyrighted. For more good info on Inventing check out my blog at www.rogerbrown.net/blogAnd before you use any invention submission company make sure you ask how many Inventors made more in royalties than paid them for their services. You will be surprised by the answer. If they dodge the question it might be a good reason not to use them.

That is correct. Some want you to have filed a patent or have an issued patent. That is why you need to know their policy prior to submitting your idea to them. Take the time to learn the industry before you submit your ideas so that you can make informed decisions. To many Inventors are in deep debt with nothing to show for it but made everyone else around them richer paying for services they do not need or do not need until later in the process. I have had numerous Inventors tell me there is nothing out there like their idea and within 15 minutes of looking found their exact idea on the market already. Do your research upfront and treat it like a business.
