One way to get around the cost of getting expensive prototypes built is to draw a virtual prototype. If you have the computer CAD skills this can be a fairly simple task (fortunately i do). If you don't then there are companies which offer the service but at a cost. One idea is to get a university student to do it. Some are better than profesional CAD draftsmen. If you are interested in virtual prototyping then why not try contacting a university art or technical department near you.
